Muscle
My grandson from Arizona, who is 21 and
in the Air Force reserves, came to Utah on
his way to Alaska for a summer job.
I complimented him on his physique.
Has always been very skinny, which caused
me to refer to him as Ichabod Crane.
Apparently, he's been lifting weights, and
it shows in the muscles in his arms.
I shared with him that I had recently started
lifting weights for strength in my arms
and upper body, since I am such a little
weakling I was proud to tell him that I was
actually lifting 3 pounds, doing five
different sets.
I think he had to use some self-control not
to laugh out loud or comment.
I then proceeded to tell him that I did have
another muscle in my body that was quite
large as it is used more frequently than
other.
He asked what it was, so I showed him, I
stuck out my tongue.
“Biggest muscle in my body. Gets the most
use,” I told him. I explained that I have been
trying to lift more descriptive words from my
mouth which has caused my tongue to
increase in size.
For a moment, I think he believed me.
But then I saw that familiar look, the one that says here she goes again.
After all, he's had 21 years of practice.
So maybe it's not the strength in my arms but the words that I say that will keep him close.
Still, just to be safe.
I think I'll stick with the 3 pound weights.
