I often talk about my less than organised way of doing life. Today I was going to make a Diana Henry olive oil chocolate cake for a dinner party I am going too. As I started prepping this morning, I realised I didn’t have any baking paper, but I was sure I had all the ingredients (not that I checked). So I went to buy the baking paper and brought it back just in time to make the cake and go to the party.
As I was about to melt the chocolate, I realised that what I thought was 70% dark chocolate was in fact mint flavoured dark chocolate. Luckily I bought some savoiardi biscuits when I went to get the baking paper and I had some mascarpone in the fridge, so I ended up making tiramisu.
Halfway through the process I realised my electric whisk was no longer whisking at full speed, in fact it was doing it about 0.1 of the required speed, so I whipped out the hand whisk and managed to make the tiramisu which is now resting in the fridge.
Oh and I learned the Portuguese word for baking parchment paper: papel manteiga or papel vegetal.
I also wondered, is hand whisking a lost skill? And can you get a tennis shoulder or carpal tunnel from hand whisking?
