There was something absolutely serendipitous about this morning walk. I saw my favourite bird, the Eurasian Jay (which is the bird that inspired the image drawn by Sarah Pilley for my publication lizadebevec.substack.com While it flew away before I could record its shriek on my Merlin app, it seems Merlin realised I saw a jay, as it offered it to me as my bird of the day. The app also heard the shrieks of 12 other birds (of which I only saw two, the black bird and the wood pigeon, because I went out without my glasses). But was a glorious bird watching/listening walk and I think I may need to write a post about the men who taught me about birds.
