I see a lot of food writers and recipe developers refer to Burnt Basque Cheesecakes as super easy, simple, and low effort.

While there might be some truth in that generalized statement the reality is that the simplest baked goods require just as much patience, baking intuition, and hard work to perfect (not to mention produce consist results).

I understand that calling recipes or dishes easy is a marketing tactic, a rhetorical tool used to persuade people to give their recipes or these dishes a try. (A technique I’m guilty of using myself in the past).

But how effective is this technique really?

Does calling a recipe or dish simple or easy actually encourage people (you) to try the recipe?

I personally think the ease of making something doesn’t draw people in anywhere as much as folks think. The more important motivator is the desire to learn how to make a homemade version you can share with family and friends, or eat yourself whenever you want!

So getting your recipes in front of the right audience is really what’s key.

Some people might pick a simple or easy dessert recipe for a dinner or a party they are hosting but if ease is the motivator wouldn’t it be easier to buy a dessert from a local bakery or restaurant?
