Dickey started on ukulele and banjo, and by 16 was ready for a real guitar and a slicker sound. "I was a little weirdo because I started playing when I was about five years old. I was playing Davy Crockett & those kinds of songs on the ukulele. Then I got a mandolin and a banjo when I was about 10 years old, and I liked to play country music. I liked playing with my family but when I got up around 16, I realized I wanted to do something a little faster. So I got my first real guitar. It was a Stella acoustic and I put a pick up on it and got it Gibson amp." Dickey Betts
