Songs, Dickey Betts said, came not from abstraction, but from the people around him. The feeling was theirs. The music made it everybody's. “Songwriting is very personal to me. It can be based on what I'm feeling, or what somebody else is going through. A lot of times you see somebody else going through something that you went through a year or two earlier, and although you're not feeling it right now. you know what they are going through, so you write about their situation. I always like to write songs for other people, like "Jessica," "Blue Sky" and "Elizabeth Reed." It's a way to show people how much I care about them.” Dickey Betts 📷Sidney Smith
