On this day, in 1972, the Israeli occupation forces assassinated the great Ghassan Kanafani and his niece Lamees. He was taking her to register for classes at the AUB. When I used to teach there in Beirut, I thought often of the education that Lamees missed because of the Israeli violence and I thought of what we lost when Kanafani, so young, left us without the rest of his words.
