Thank you very much for this, but I disagree. When we talk about ‘gender roles’, we actually mean jobs traditionally done by one sex of the other. The same is true of clothing – it relates to garments usually worn by one sex or the other. If these observations – or ‘demarcations’ – were not based on sex, or biological anatomy, they would be meaningless. In other words, the ‘demarcations’ in society happened because of biology, not instead of it. There have always been people who dressed and behaved differently – but the fact that this has been considered unusual is based on that person’s biology – their sex – and nothing more.
