Something important is happening here:
Notice how many people felt deeply uncomfortable with his statements.
Many haven't realized it, but a new form of morality is emerging: one in which treating humans as expendable, worthless, or less than machines is wrong.
This is a natural and expected reaction to the AI industry's often dehumanizing and 'anti-human' worldview.
People want to feel seen, respected, and valued as humans, including in our physical, emotional, and biological capacities and limitations.
Overvaluing, idealizing, or idolizing machines can never help make humans better off. Actually (and bizarrely), it makes people wish to become more machine-like.
AI governance is one of the tools we have to ensure we can remain proudly human.
This is a growingly important topic, and I've been writing weekly about how we can ensure 'pro-human' policies, rules, and rights remain at the forefront.
Unfortunately, we should not take it for granted.
