As a historical fact Palestinians did bring the Nakba on themselves. The Arabs rejected pluralist democracy when they had a majority, launched a massive insurgency and war to try to kill the Jews, and a large but hard to estimate share of Nakba sufferers voluntarily left their homes in expectation of the Arab states sweeping the Jews into the sea. Not a few of the empty homes were filled with dreams of a genocide of the Jews. Yes Israel also did bad things; I’m not exonerating them. But the historic facts are not super unclear on these specific points.

And for the record this is what happened to Christians post-630s. Tons of Christians decamped to Byzantine held lands thinking a Byzantine army would eventually, obviously, reconquer the land and they would return. The Byzantines never did, so they never returned.

Leaving your home with the anticipation of returning in conquest does not win you friends among those you aimed to (re)conquer.
