If you're reading this, you're probably already familiar with Data Day Texas. For sixteen years it was the place in Austin where data folks from around the world showed up for each other every January - it was the annual party masquerading as a data conference.

Day Texas was crafted during a very particular moment in time, and that moment has passed.

The Data World in 2011

Although I'd been hosting tech events out of my bookstore since 1990, it wasn't until 2010 that I organized my first proper conference - starting with the first MongoDB conference in March, followed by the first Cassandra Summit later the same year. These events led to a considerable amount of outreach from startups, and I found myself increasingly spending time in the Bay Area.

Having a front row seat for so many new tools and technologies, I wanted to share them with the tribes back in Austin. Thus, Data Day Texas was born - a cross between a homecoming and a thank you to the city that had been my home since ‘84…
