Six things I hope you take away from being here with me in Make Art Be Happy

(Thank you, Grace Atwood, for the spark.)

1. You are not broken because you stopped creating

So many women believe they “lost it.”

Life happened.

Grief. Caretaking. Exhaustion. Real life.

Your creativity did not disappear.

It just got quiet.

Original art reminds you that real humans make real things right in the middle of messy, ordinary lives.

When you hang original art in your home you hang proof that creativity belongs in real life.

And that changes the room.

And you.

2. You do not have to earn the right to feel like an artist

We wait to be “legit.”

More classes.

More proof.

More perfect work.

No.

Dress like the artist you already are.

Wear color if you want color.

Wear quiet if you want quiet.

Wear the scarf that feels like joy.

Your body is your first canvas.

You already belong here.

3. You are allowed creative nourishment without guilt

Women apologize for wanting time.

For reading.

For resting.

For filling the well.

But every kind of reading nourishes you.

A novel.

A watercolor manual.

A beach read.

A children’s picture book.

If it feeds your spirit it counts.

No guilt necessary.

4. You are not running out of time

The world tells women they peak early.

But creativity deepens.

Your forties can be richer than your thirties.

You’re seventies deeper than your sixties.

And on it goes.

Your art grows as you grow.

More honesty.

More soul.

More “this is who I really am.”

There is no deadline on becoming.

5. You do not have to live inside someone else’s checklist

Checking boxes is not creativity.

Living for approval turns artists into good girls and art into homework.

Your curiosity

your joy

your weird wonderful instincts

are worth following.

Let your life be your favorite creative project.

6. Beauty is meant to be used now

Not saved for someday.

Use the good brushes.

The “special” paper.

The paint you think is too nice for practice.

The special china for your tea.

Let your everyday life feel like studio time.

Today counts.

You count.

And beneath it all

Your creativity is not silly

or extra

or optional.

It is the language your soul speaks.

I am honored to be part of your creative world.
