In the chorus, Joe Perry used a talkbox. It was the first time the device had been heard on a hit song. The talkbox allows a guitarist to produce strange vocal sounds by “talking” into a tube connected to the output of the amplifier. Perry later used it again on “Sweet Emotion.”
