“Money for Nothing” was the lead single from Brothers in Arms, the album recorded on the tiny Caribbean island of Montserrat, at AIR Studios, Associated Independent Recording, the studio founded by George Martin, the legendary Beatles producer. The studio operated from 1979 until Hurricane Hugo wiped it out in 1989. The Police had already recorded Ghost in the Machine and Synchronicity there, so Sting knew the place well. He was there on something like a working vacation and dropped by the sessions to add his vocals to the song.
