George Martin produced the track and arranged the orchestra. For McCartney, this was also a return to working with the man who had produced most of The Beatles’ work. In many retellings of the song’s story, this is almost framed as a reunion with the “fifth Beatle,” and it really did have that kind of weight. That partnership gave the song its distinctive shape, moving from its melodic opening into bursts of force, orchestral peaks, and the more aggressive body of the track.
