The song’s iconic intro also came from a very specific need. Peterik conceived it while driving his car, looking for a dramatic way to open the track, with emphasis on the punches being thrown in the fight scenes. That intro echoed an opening he and Sullivan had put together a few years earlier for the song “Youngblood” on Survivor’s first album. The idea was for there to be a musical attack from the very first moment, something that would speak almost physically. The song was not supposed to enter smoothly. It was supposed to enter like a blow.
