In early 1984, the track was rewritten as “Take On Me” and recorded with producer Tony Mansfield. This version was released as a single only in Europe. In their homeland, Norway, it reached No. 3, but nowhere else did it have any real impact. In the United Kingdom, in fact, it failed very badly. A video was also made for that first version, one that was considered extremely undistinguished compared to the one that followed. In other words, before the legendary video the world knows, there was a first visual presence of the song that barely stood out at all.
