The song’s success spread everywhere. It became the eighth No. 1 in the US with a title at least partly in Spanish, after songs such as “Bailamos,” “El Paso,” “I Adore Mi Amor,” “La Bamba,” “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” “Macarena,” and “Tequila.” It was also the fourth American chart-topper of the 21st century and the first by a group whose title does not appear in the lyrics. By the time it had reached No. 1 in both the UK and the US, the song still did not yet have an official promotional video ready to accompany it.
