Elbows Downing it to the USA?

Amid rising political tensions with the United States, Canadians are increasingly opting for domestic travel, choosing to explore their own country's diverse landscapes and culture rather than crossing the border. This shift is driven by frustration with U.S. policies, including trade disputes and rhetoric that challenges Canadian sovereignty. By investing in local tourism, Canadians are supporting their economy, fostering national pride, and sidestepping the uncertainties of cross-border travel. Cities like Calgary are successfully attracting U.S. visitors, but the broader trend reflects a conscious effort to bolster domestic prosperity and resilience.

Why not take this chance to ditch those U.S. destinations and explore our own incredible country instead? Canada is vast, and there's a lifetime's worth of amazing places to see right here! I recently visited Winnipeg for the first time, and it was fantastic. Next on my list is Newfoundland, and I can't wait to experience it.

Honestly, with the current political climate, I can't understand why any Canadian would choose to spend their loonies in U.S. vacation spots. If you're doing that, you might as well not come back! Sure, I get that some people have prepaid trips, but come on. Getting detained might get you some press, but it really just shows a lack of awareness—and let's not even talk about the risk of getting into serious trouble.

I've got friends across the U.S. and in-laws in Ohio, but even that's not enough to make me cross the border right now. Let's focus on supporting our own economy and discovering the beauty that Canada has to offer. Trust me, you won't regret it!
