The app for independent voices

It's true a lot of fantasy is just tropes blended with other tropes, served over microwaved copies of real food. Many fantasy authors only read fantasy, and if they branch out, it's nothing older than 20 years.

However, as people return to first principles and steep themselves in the myths and the classic and, most importantly, live an embodied life with some risk taking, we might get transformative works again.

We can't simply read Tolkien and Lewis. We have to also read what they read. And while there might not be a World War that kills most of our friends, we can still seek out some form of adventure.

Look you dumb losers. Yes, there's been some good fantasy written, Guy Gavriel Kay and Susanna Clarke, but it's a dead genre. Nothing fresh, meaningful, genre defining has been written in decades. Fantasy is like the western novel, a dead genre.
