"One side will take you somewhere impossible," said the Caterpillar lazily, "and the other, nowhere at all—which, for certain people, is nearly the same destination."

Alice turned the neon-colored cap between her fingers. One bite tasted of upside-down rain. The other tasted of cherry pie from an unfinished dream.

“The troublesome thing about nowhere,” the Caterpillar continued through a ribbon of silver smoke, “is that many wander into it by accident and decorate the place as though they meant to stay.”

So Alice kept a crumb of each side tucked carefully in her pocket: one for traveling beyond the map, and one for disappearing from it entirely.
