Reason #245 that I’m grateful I live in New Mexico:

Just called the state health insurance exchange (BeWellNM) to see what my premium will be for 2026. I was bracing myself for the worst, given the way Republican leadership in the U.S. Congress is blocking any extensions of the subsidies that have made this insurance affordable.

It turns out that Governor Lujan Grisham and state reps have approved funding to cover whatever subsidies we’ve lost at the federal level — and so my monthly premium is 0. I had to ask several times to make sure this was right because it seemed to good to be true, but it is.

Grateful to live in a state that is doing something to protect those who would otherwise be out in the cold for healthcare.
