The app for independent voices

I haven’t updated in a while. It’s been a discombobulating few weeks.

In case you missed it: in January, Shaw and I were denied entry into Canada when we attempted to enter as visitors ahead of pursuing formal study permits. We had to return to Minnesota unexpectedly and regroup.

We’re currently staying with friends in Richfield (a first-ring Minneapolis suburb), which has given us temporary stability and breathing room.

Shaw has been accepted into Osgoode’s one-year Common Law program in Toronto, which will allow her to convert her U.S. JD and legal experience so she can practice in Canada. I’m waiting to hear back from several PhD programs in March and April. The plan is to apply for study permits and, if approved, reenter in June.

In the meantime, I’m writing...finishing revisions on Will Breath Find Bone and sketching new essays. January’s reversal disrupted us more than I expected, but we’re finding a rhythm.

Whilst in the Twin Cities this spring, I have openings for speaking, teaching, and facilitated conversations.

My work examines how power becomes lived: how it shapes obedience, identity, fear, and even the movements that claim to resist it.

I’m drawn to rooms where people are already uneasy: where something isn’t sitting right. My role isn’t to deliver answers. It’s to help name what’s operating beneath the surface so we can respond with more clarity and less reflex.

I’m especially interested in conversations where faith, politics, and identity collide—not as abstract debates, but as pressures people are actually feeling.

Many communities sense something is off. Fewer know how to talk about it without defaulting to certainty or collapse.

I’m available for speaking, preaching, workshops, teaching intensives, consulting, and retreats. I only accept speaking or preaching engagements if there’s also space for facilitated conversation or a workshop—I’m interested in work that moves beyond performance into shared discernment.

If this would serve your community, reach out.

And we’re deeply grateful to those who’ve offered housing, funds, food, and steadiness. It has mattered.
