Last night at dinner with a group of seriously impressive women, we went around the table and shared “life hacks.” I kept trying to come up with something neat and tidy: a quick fix, a product I swear by, a shortcut that changes everything. But the truth is, nothing like that has ever really been the thing for me.

And then it clicked: my biggest “life hack” is routine.

I wake up at 5am. I work out. I try to be fully there with my kids before the day starts. I get dressed in something that sets my mood. I begin. Those early hours set the tone. By the time the rest of the world ramps up, I’m already in motion, and that becomes the precedent for everything that follows.

When I made this shift a few years back, a lot changed in ways I could actually feel: I became more productive, my health and fitness improved, and my mind felt clearer in the morning. It isn’t a shortcut, but it works.
