The Catedral Metropolitana de la Asunción de María de Ciudad de México is Latin America’s largest cathedral, and it remained under construction for most of the Spanish period in Mexican history, starting in 1571.
Mexico, where anti-royalists were easily defeated, only became independent, in 1821, because of a Freemason coup in Spain, but the cathedral was finished by 1813. Just in time!
