Two days (so far) at the stellar Big Ears music festival in Knoxville. A few shots: Warren Ellis of The Dirty Three leading the crowd in a call-and-response to “raise the (musical) dead” - Cash, Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye among others; Thurston Moore coaxing sounds you’d didn’t know existed out of his guitar; Roscoe Mitchell of Art Ensemble of Chicago still blowing strong at 85; Marc Ribot playing Albert Ayler songs with ferocity.
