Make money doing the work you believe in

Maria, fear of heights, we have time.

In my youth, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston were huge. I was a fan of all three. I was definitely a POP kid. Count Down and MTV were life. I devoured it like candy, one isn't enough, so the whole bag. The elusive nature, the switching of identity, and 'no matter what' creating what you want, appealed to me. A welcome escape from the stifling elementary school existence.

When I look at my son (10 yrs old), I see that he has the same thing. He has taste, can distinguish junk from quality. We can really talk about it while listening to the radio in the car. About good drumming and wonderful vocal use. Yes, then I feel very content with myself as a parent. If anything let it be the love of music. Just as I was raised myself. Music has brought me so much. Sometimes I get melancholic and then I think how much music can I still make myself? Can I keep up with all the trends and newcomers forever? And am I now classical or pop? Oi.

I follow S10, Froukje, and Bente closely. They give a voice to something that every growing girl and young woman recognizes. And even though Madonna was the 'scruffy' example in my time, I don't think she came as close as these three. She was an international star, but these three, so to speak, live around the corner.

Maria from S10;

It's a man's world, but not in mine

You can look at me

I'm not getting smaller

Fear of Heights from Bente;

Because everything that doesn't want today

will surely be a little less heavy tomorrow

We have time from Froukje;

And if I lose it

Will I ever get it back

We have time

We have time

Their work rightly demands space. Because goodness, as a girl growing up, you often think you know everything and are everything (I think I had more self-confidence then than now), but actually you know nothing. So just take it easy. Sit down and listen to these three. I tell myself.
