Americans are faced with fundamental decisions: Do we want a humanitarian bottom line or an economic bottom line? Do we want the glorious inefficiency of democracy, making the organic unfoldment of the Will of the People our first priority; or do we want the corporatized efficiency of authoritarianism, the loss of individual liberty it brings with it, and the prosperity it guarantees but only to its chosen few?
An economic bottom line excites Donald Trump and the corporatists who support him - why? Because there’s no adrenaline for them or short term profit involved in “Wow! We just fed more hungry children.” If we want humanitarian values, democracy, ethics and human decency to be our governing principles over the next few years, we’re going to have to exhibit a lot of courage to make it so.
We need a revolution of values in the United States: the dissolution of a soulless economic and political paradigm that now dominates our mainstream status quo.
