I’ve been chasing this shot for quite some time at Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland which is about an hour’s drive from my home. I had previously scouted this location so I had a clear idea of the composition I wanted, but it all depended on the weather conditions lining up with where I wanted the rising sun to be.
Last week, everything finally came together for my envisaged image which made all the planning so worth it – I do love it when a plan comes to fruition!
I did have to wait in the freezing wind until the sun had crested the horizon to catch the light hitting the wall in the foreground which made it a tricky edit.
Given the extreme dynamic range in the scene, this is a HDR blend to retain detail across both the highlights and shadows.
Do let me know if you Prefer the Landscape or Portrait version?
