I am writing something about a jazz gig I’ve just been to (coming soon -I promise!) and , I find my dilemma is trying to locate something in the Goldilocks zone: not whether the porridge is too hot or too cold, but whether the jazz is too soft and insubstantial      —too safe to inspire—or too avant-garde, too sharp, too uncomfortable. It's a trickier proposition than you might think. So what about an equivalent in reviews to the restaurant menu’s chillis – how experimental an album is -I can take quite a lot -as with my chillis –others may like it less spicy.
