Seville. A mixed experience for me. Lovely weather, peaceful walks in the gardens, visited places of interest, the Palm Sunday procession was an experience in itself, but what I didn’t anticipate was the racism that was targeted towards my daughter, despite her fluency in Spanish. This cast a shadow on the trip as it happened several times. I’ve spoken about it on other social media and I’ve been described as precious, easily offended and that I should get over myself. It may not be your experience but it was my experience: to be asked about your nationality over and over, despite pointing at the Union Jack logo on a leaflet, to be treated as a shoplifter, to have people suddenly get up when you are seated at a table for dinner (which happened several times). However, I’m taking away the positives, a lovely boat ride, beautiful weather where I got a tan, a flamenco show, doing a run through the gardens with my daughter and eating delicious food. Our experiences in Seville made me realise how much of a London bubble we live in.
