What an incredible essay. It’s about the Free Press but what it’s really about is an insistence on centering the humanity of protesters, the living and the dead.

That’s what got me, really: I’d see a few dumb posters and teeter on the edge of feeling superior to the whole thing, and then I’d see another photo of a dead person clutched in a pair of mittens.
