Someone was held accountable-Mike Nifong was disbarred and briefly imprisoned. The problem was that it stopped there. Dan Abrams, NBCs legal correspondent at the time, was the lone figure with any profile in academia, the media or law who called bullshit on obvious bullshit. It wasn’t “didn't know,” it was “didn't care.” Most of those who traded in lies over this to perpetuate their sorry careers suffered no damage to their reps. That's the problem.
