Wonderful article on ancient trade contains this little nugget on the long-run trend in the cost of living: In Bronze-Age Anatolia, tin was valued by weight at 1/7th that of silver. Today that ratio is 1/43rd, or 15% of its cost three millennia ago.

I wonder how much childcare for a working family cost back then? 🤔
