The app for independent voices

In this Macabre Monday post, I want to talk about people who don’t exist.

See, I recently finished reading Little Heaven by Nick Cutter, and while I thought it was a pretty good book, I still would recommend his 2014 debut The Troop for new Cutter readers. That said, I’m absolutely a fan of Mr. Cutter’s. The Troop is one of my favorite horror novels, and just like Little Heaven, it’s full of terror, darkness, and gore.

But Mr. Cutter doesn’t exist. Nick Cutter is a pseudonym – a pen name of horrific creation – created by author Craig Davidson. He goes into detail about the pseudonym in the interview linked below, but one reason he suggests for its creation/use was that readers of his “typical” work may not be interested in the style/horror of his Cutter novels (a “separation of camps” as Davidson puts it).

Maybe, some day, I’ll read a Craig Davidson novel – but for now, I’m eagerly awaiting the new Nick Cutter novel.

Leave a comment below and tell me what other pseudonym authors you enjoy. For extra credit, think up a horror-themed pseudonym for yourself and let me know what it is!
