Yes! Finally a constructive conversation about this!
Instead, it seems we always fall into the trap of blaming women on one side or the other. After I had a child I texted many friends and said: I'M SORRY I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS LIKE THIS. It was so much more intense than I had ever imagined.
The problem isn't women or friendship ofc, it's the capitalist patriarchal structures that make parenting (and life for everyone) so, so much harder and consuming than it needs to be in the U.S. But it's really hard to explain that to people who don't have kids, so you just kind of come off like a "different person" who has "changed all the sudden." Mostly what has changed is that you now have an around-the-clock job and sleep deprivation with little to no support, which turns anyone into a "different person."
All of that feels like it's by design, of course, to keep us isolated and separate.
