Maybe, but they didn't have antibiotics at that time. In recent years, both my parents have had multiple bouts of secondary bacterial pneumonia resulting from respiratory viral infections that likely would have killed them if not for antibiotics. Antibiotics are overused, but they're life savers when used at appropriate times.
