“Beast Boy: Lone Wolf” brought me some pure joy in a week when it was sorely needed! Our favorite green shapeshifter stars in 10 minisodes that came to Youtube in the U.S. this week.

“Lone Wolf” runs with the premise that a solo Beast Boy adventure is a little ridiculous, with our hero struggling to be taken seriously. We’ve seen inept superheroes played for laughs before, but Gar Logan has a long history of big talk to mask his real self-doubts. While his character has deep layers as a trauma survivor, “Lone Wolf” wisely distills him down to his essence as a goofball with contagious enthusiasm. I’ve always preferred heroes who make me smile in the face of darkness.

As a near-40 year fan, this series gives Beast Boy a long-deserved star turn. Let’s hope for some more!
