I haven’t been myself for a few days. In fact, yesterday after work, I drove to the grocery store, and it wasn't until I got home that I realized I shouldn't have gone — I was speeding and being reckless. So out of control. So unlike me. I was that angry woman. I've seen her around before. Women have been pissed off for a millennium. Today, as another day winds down, I remember that I can’t do anything about the lack of freight OTR, the traffic backlogs at the weigh stations (thanks, DEA), nor can I find a better health insurance policy than the one I already have, which comes with a $426 higher premium. I can’t stop Cooper from digging in the yard and making the house a mess after I just cleaned. I can’t stop the red wasps from coming through the vent in my office this time of year! But! I can work on drawing and painting raptors better.
Filling the page: Eagle taking flight in sepia ink. In February 2019, after a weekend-long oyster conference in New Orleans, I gave myself the morning before flying back to KY to explore the Central Arts District. Fact: I knew I was sick, but I wouldn't know my stage IV liposarcoma diagnosis for two more months. Anyway, David Yarrow had an exhibit, “Wild Encounters” (I didn't note the gallery name): gorgeous, wall-filling wildlife and nature photography, all done in a sepia/silvertone. I'm sure there's a proper term for that style in photography. Drop me a note if you know. Eagle head in graphite and watercolor. Thanks to French photographer Tof Mayanoff on Unsplash for the photo study. You might've seen my Cooper’s Hawk bust rendition with the gold foils and watercolor in a previous Note. Practicing talons in 2B graphite and watercolor because bird feet are hard. We can do hard things! 🔥
