Hold Your Tongue
I give a lot of advice.
Most of it, I live by.
But not all of it.
Sometimes I speak when I shouldn’t.
Say things that don’t need to be said.
Share information that carries no value.
until I give it weight by speaking it.
That’s the danger.
Not everything needs to be said.
Not everything said needs to be heard.
A careless sentence can sit in someone’s mind longer than you ever intended.
It can shift how they see you.
It can hurt them in ways you can’t take back.
I broke my own rule recently.
And I hurt someone I love.
Now I sit with that.
Not knowing how long they’ll carry it. or if they always will.
That’s the cost of speaking without purpose.
Learn when to speak.
Learn how to speak.
And most importantly. learn when silence is the higher form of intelligence.
