On this day, 1915, Albert Einstein presented the field equations of general relativity to the Prussian Academy of Sciences

The field equations relate the geometry of spacetime to the distribution of matter within it. Namely, they describe how matter curves spacetime in its vicinity and how the magnitude of curvature is directly proportional to the energy, expressed as momentum, of the matter.
