Make money doing the work you believe in

Homeschooling might be cool now, but back in my day it was absolutely rampant with child abuse. I’ve seen many articles similar to this lately (thank you algorithm), I knew many messed up homeschool families growing up, and my own parents used homeschooling as a form of abuse and control over me and my siblings. I get blank looks from people when I tell them I hated being homeschooled, and then I read articles like this and want to scream.

And it’s not the parents whose kid is struggling in school, and pulls them out to homeschool, who are the problem; it’s the people who feel like the world has done them wrong, who use homeschooling to feed their ego and raise what are essentially indentured servants, who need scrutiny.

I am having to unlearn things from homeschooling that are just factually incorrect, and I had an allegedly “classical” education. I believe homeschooling should be heavily regulated. I believe parents who don’t send their kids to school should have a target on their back and be constantly checked on by authorities. There are far too many stories like this for it to not be considered a widespread problem.

Sure, lock the abusive schoolteachers up too. But as pointed out in this article, many families aren’t even registered to homeschool, so the abuse statistics in schools vs homeschooling is inaccurate at best.
