Since the Democratic Party is unable to produce a coherent autopsy of what went wrong in the 2024 election, I will help them out:
Biden was too old to run, which became blindingly obvious during the debate, but was concerning to many Americans years prior
National Democrats did not sufficiently challenge the Teachers Unions and state/local Democrats who kept schools closed for nearly the entire 2020/2021 school year...an educational catastrophe we are still seeing in test scores 5 years later.
The asylum system was openly abused, and the border was out of control…this is not a myth, Biden’s border recorded 3x the number of illegal crossings as the pre-COVID years
The abrupt hand-off to Kamala mid-campaign, without primaries or an open convention, was sloppy and weakened what was already a mid-tier candidate
The embarrassment of the Afghanistan withdrawal and the unwillingness to hold anyone accountable reinforced what people suspected…that the executive was old and weak
Several decades of blaming straight, white men for nearly all of society’s ills (which culminated in the woke era) resulted in many straight white men (and their spouses) to regard the Democratic Party as an enemy of their identity.
The ARP the IRA and other bills pushed trillions of dollars into the economy, which strained deficits and predictably stoked inflation, while the Dems largely left this most basic of pocketbook issues unaddressed
National Democrats insufficiently challenged the leaders of Democratic cities to address rising rates of crime, homelessness, and disorder that were spiraling out of control
Trump probably has an absolute floor of support of ~35% and an absolute ceiling of ~55%. The campaign should have focused on the concerns of this 20% of the population, and yet the progressive wing of the party would not have that
For a party that ran on the plausible goal of “Saving Democracy” the Democrats made a long string of incompetent decisions and were unable to control the elements of their coalition that were electorally knee-capping the Party as a whole…Save Democracy?…the 2024 Democrats couldn’t even save themselves from themselves.
