as a new music curator, I'm not sure I'm fully on board with this take. i can appreciate old and new equally. there's a lot of great new music out there, original new music that might be inspired by something older but not necessarily simply a version of something old just freshly put together (and lots of other new art as well). appreciating it doesn't mean I've been “swayed by the culture around me” or that I'm “unsure of my own gifts”. I'm also very very far from young.
