True… and yet! There’s also great freedom in our new mode: what Hans-Georg Moeller calls “profilicity.” That’s a new form of identity, contrasting with sincerity (the premodern mode) and authenticity (the modern mode). Profilicity means that we all perform life—but that means we all can be (must be!) artists.
Personality as art form seems wrong from standpoint of authenticity, but opens new possibilities for constant creativity: if we allow it, engage with it, delight in it.
