How much of this is the “Tibetan” vs. the “Buddhism”?

Well… there is no other sort of Buddhism that is attractive for me at all. OTOH, there’s lots not to like about the Tibetan version (along with lots to like), and I feel quite done with the Tibetanness (vividness.live/now-you-something-say).

and I have tried to abstract out “Vajrayana” as a non-Tibetan thing, which is of course historically justified: vividness.live/vajrayana-is-not-tibetan… .

OTOH, that leaves it up to us, somewhat, to figure out what “Vajrayana” means outside its cultural context. Others have also attempted that, and are attempting that, and I think we’re all doing an OK job.

It’s also a somewhat tiresome task that I personally have to trade off against other, potentially more useful work I can do.

When I have a day I can spend writing, it’s usually a live question “write about Vajrayana or write about something else?”

My next Substack post (scheduled to go out tomorrow) is non-Tibetan Vajrayana. It’s anti-Tibetan, to be honest, and will probably offend the few people who read it.

Which is what prompted the shower thoughts, i.e. “was that the best use of four days’ worth of writing effort?”
