A sobering thought. Even if you are not using AI, would never use AI, the agents you are querying may put it into an AI detection software, thus feeding your words into the engine. Also, we know these tools are inherently flawed, leading to wonder whether innocent authors who have never used AI might get caught in the crossfire and not get representation because of it.

Putting writers’ works into AI detection software is its own kind of theft. As a literary agent I don’t believe that I have permission to do whatever I want with whatever words I come across. I believe in author consent which is why I became an agent. I won’t be taking queries and manuscript submissions and putting them into AI detection software, but I know agents that do and will continue to do so.
