This sucks to hear but it needs to be heard: you CANNOT increase your joy by avoiding discomfort. Joy and pain run on the same neural circuits, so you actually decrease your capacity for joy by avoiding discomfort.
The range expands or collapses proportionately. If you can't sit in pain, you can't experience joy.
We have GOT to stop treating discomfort like a malfunction because every time we minimize it, we keep it from carving out the space that joy and delight and awe and deep rest need to exist.
