In a world split red and blue, even our food choices have become political landmines.
It has become easier to mock a regenerative cattle rancher as “alt-right paleo” or deride a vegan permaculturist as a “liberal soy boy” than it is to look closely at the shared soil under their fingernails.
And in that polarization, we forgot a crucial truth: the common enemy is not your neighbor’s plate—it’s the ultra-processed, chemical-soaked, industrialized food system feeding us both. Or worse yet, fossil fuels.
Inspired by my post-workout meal, I just published an essay called “Blended, Not Binary: Purple smoothies and the politics of what nourishes us”.
If you’ve ever felt caught between food tribes or wondered how we can move toward something better—something more whole, maybe something purple—this one's for you.
