My son’s school does something quietly powerful: they invite parents/guardians to notice their children being good humans outside the classroom. Showing respect, perseverance, integrity, empathy and share those moments with the administration.
The principal then reads them aloud to the students, publicly recognizing kids not for grades or trophies, but for character.
Today, my son and his best friend were recognized.
His friend was honored for sheltering my daughter from the rain, simply to “protect her.” My son was recognized for persevering through learning how to ice skate, pushing past frustration, and not giving up when it got hard.
Public recognition for doing good. For trying. For caring. For being human in the best way.
The world could use a lot more of that.
